Have a Blast at the Lake of the Ozarks

Michael Moore • February 28, 2025

This fun-for-all destination offers so many activities in a beautiful setting that you won’t want to leave.

From wineries to scenic hikes and water sports to outlet shopping, Lake of the Ozarks is a premiere destination for guests of all ages in Missouri. Nicknamed “the Missouri Dragon” because of its unique, snake-like shape, Lake of the Ozarks, located in central Missouri, is a great year-round destination (although the summer months are arguably the best months in which to visit). This lake, one of the largest artificial lakes in the United States, is even the setting for the popular TV show Ozark, although the show is actually filmed in Georgia.

Lake of the Ozarks is a great summer destination. With spots for hiking, areas for watersports, a large party cove for boats and more, Lake of the Ozarks has something to entertain visitors of all ages. The area is even getting a $350 million water park and hotel development called Oasis at Lakeport in 2025. You might even bump into Blake Shelton or Brad Pitt while hanging around the lake, as both men are reported to own houses on the water. If you’re looking for a top-notch Missouri destination for year-round fun, look no further than Lake of the Ozarks.

Six fun ways to enjoy the Lake of the Ozarks

  • Go for a hike at Ha Ha Tonka State Park. Not to be missed, Ha Ha Tonka State Park has a plethora of activities to appeal to visitors. You can peer over the scenic bluffs or visit Missouri’s 12th largest spring. Take a peek at the turn-of-the-century castle or check out the natural bridge in the park. This is one gorgeous spot you won’t want to skip.
  • Explore Bridal Cave and enjoy the natural scenery. Bridal Cave in Camedenton is a fun spot that’s open year-round for visitors. Access the cave by land or water and spend time exploring the unique geography. Kids can also enjoy gemstone mining and fishing during their visit. This stunning space is welcoming and enjoyable to all.
  • Sip a glass of vino at Shawnee Bluff Winery. Be prepared to be wowed by the sweeping views of the lake you can enjoy as you sip a glass (or share a bottle) of wine from this local spot. You can also have a meal here with your travel partners to truly unwind and spend time together. Check the schedule for live music to enhance your visit.
  • Go ziplining through the lush scenery for a view from above. Clip in and get ready for a wild ride through the forest with Adrenaline Zipline Company, the first canopy zipline tour at the Lake of the Ozarks, located in Camdenton. Check the website for age and weight restrictions and get ready to feel the rush of adrenaline that comes with an adventure like ziplining.
  • Ride the waves with a chartered boat or rented watercraft. There are many ways to explore the lake from, well, the lake! You can rent everything from jet skis to speedboats and kayaks to canoes. Whatever type of adventure you crave, you’ll find it at the Lake of the Ozarks.
  • Fulfill your need for speed with a trip to the go kart tracks. With several options in the area, you’ll be able to choose which go kart emporium you want to hit up. Then put your buckle on, put the pedal to the medal and have a blast behind the wheel on a controlled track. Check the websites for age and height restrictions if you plan to bring little ones.
